NHE committed to providing affordable housing: Shafombabi

THE National Housing Enterprise (NHE), a government parastatal tasked with financing and supplying homes to Namibians, says it will fulfil its goal despite fierce competition from private developers.

This new development comes as the country faces a huge housing shortage, with many citizens living in shacks and improvised structures.

NHE acting Corporate Communication Manager, Tuafi Shafombabi said they are constructing 268 houses nationwide.

“Of these, 33 will be built in Tsandi, 70 in Okahao, and 26 in Outapi, all of which are in the Omusati district. NHE aims to assist people with low and medium incomes,” Shafombabi said.

She stated that 24 more houses would be erected in Ondangwa in the Oshana area and another 50 in Omuthiya in the Oshikoto Region.

According to Shafombabi, NHE is actively building 65 in Gobabis, Omaheke region, in the country’s east, and an unspecified number of houses are also being constructed in Windhoek as part of the Informal Settlement Upgrading Programme (ISUP).
