RAPPER Kamaaizemi Hoveka popularly known as KP Illest who got crowned ‘Best male artist of the year’ at the most recent Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) ceremony expressed joy at winning the award dedicating the accolade to the hip hop community.

“For me it means a great deal and not only for me but for the hip hop community because I feel that’s who I won it for, to show that we can do it as well.

I know it’s not easy for them out here so this award is to instill a bit of hope,” he said.

“It is not my award, it’s ours because I’m just a student of rap like the rest of them,” he added.

On the same night, a relative industry newcomer Rose Blvc scooped three of the biggest awards; Best Album, Best Female Artist of the Year and Artist of the Year walking away with a whopping N$350 000 in one night.

NAMAs executive chairperson Tim Ekandjo congratulated all the winners:

“Congratulations to Rose Blvc and KP Illest for winning very big at this weekend’s NAMAs. We are extremely proud of them and want to see them going on and doing big collaborations with local and international artists.

Rose Blvc’s win is testimony that it doesn’t matter where you come from, if you have the talent, you will be recognised,” said Ekandjo.

This weekend’s NAMAs exceeded all expectations once again with beautiful performances from the likes of PDK, Adora, Sally Boss Madam, Rose Blvc, Ethnix and Sunny Boy.

The NAMAs will conclude next Saturday with categories Best Newcomer and Artist of the Decade being awarded. Veterans like Michael Owos Oas, Killa B, Ras Sheehama and many more will give the very last performance on the NAMAs stage for 2020.
