The third Namibian Oil and Gas Conference, is set to shine a spotlight on the country’s growing status as a strategic hub for energy development.  The conference scheduled for 12 to 15 August in Windhoek, will focus on growth, local capacity building and sector transformation.

Erven demarcation cause mayhem at Okahandja

Residents of Oshetu informal settlement say the ongoing demarcation of plots by the Okahandja Town Council is causing uncertainty and confusion.  The demarcation are part of the municipality’s township formalization process, which the local authority maintains is a step towards granting residents legal ownership of their land. 

DRC women’s project rocked by labour issues

Teachers at the DRC Women’s Community Project in Swakopmund are accusing the organization’s management of fostering a toxic working environment, unfair dismissals and unpaid salaries, amongst many other labour concerns.  The workers maintain that under current management, the working environment is extremely unhealthy, with teachers operating under constant pressure and fear of immediate dismissals.

Full govt perks for IPC’s Nashinge

The National Assembly this week confirmed that Immanuel Nashinge, the designated member from the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), will receive the full entitlements of leader of the official opposition.

Earlier this year, IPC complied with the National Assembly’s requirement to designate a parliamentary leader, even as the party continues to challenge the legality of the official opposition office in court. 

Muyongo cannot come back – Lukato

National Democratic Party (NDP) leader and member of parliament, Martin Lukato is of the opinion that exiled politician Mishake Muyongo cannot return to Namibia without a mediated resolution. Muyongo fled Namibia for Denmark after being linked to a failed attempt to separate the former Caprivi region (now Zambezi)from the rest of the country.  

Nandi-Ndaitwah, Shaningwa call for ethical reporting

Patrick Kauta, the lawyer representing bribery accused former minister Mac Albert Hengari, has threatened Confidente with a court subpoena, should the newspaper fail to grant him access to recordings and pictures taken at the scene of the former lawmakers’ arrest.

A web of sophisticated financial scam is allegedly operating from behind the walls of the Rundu police station holding cells. The fraud ring, is described as one of Namibia’s biggest scam syndicates as it reportedly involves police officers and local businesses.

Teen scoops top female player title

Fifteen-year-old table tennis player Lian Gebauer says she is excited and happy to be ranked the top female table tennis player in both the junior and senior categories, after a blistering career in the sport.

 It is rare in any sports discipline to find a teen dominating a code in both junior and senior categories, however, this appears not to be a problem for Gebauer.
