Sanlam Reinforces Commitment to Youth Empowerment
In a deliberate quest to equip students with practical experience, mentorship, and opportunities for professional growth in a dynamic corporate environment, Sanlam Namibia recently launched its 2025 internship programme in Windhoek, welcoming 17 ambitious young professionals from tertiary institutions across Namibia.
According to the insurance entity, the internship programme serves as a bridge between academic learning and industry practice, allowing participants to develop critical skills under the guidance of seasoned professionals. It also acts as a recruitment pipeline, identifying and retaining talented individuals who align with Sanlam’s values and vision. In addition, for many students, it is the final step required for graduation, making it an essential component of their academic journey.
The internship programs are exclusively available for students pursuing careers in the fields of Accounting/Finance, Business Management, Economics/Investments, Actuarial Science, Marketing/Communication, Law/Compliance, and Human Resources.
Sanlam Namibia’s Manager for Marketing and Communications, Laurencia Prinzonsky, explained that since the programme’s inception, the company has provided 114 interns with hands-on experience, helping them to graduate and transition into the workforce.
“We are proud that 32 of these interns have secured permanent roles within the company, demonstrating our long-term commitment to nurturing future leaders,” she added.
Development Practitioner, Steven Bernardus Haragaeb, shared valuable insights on career growth, resilience, and adaptability in an ever-changing job market. He urged the interns to embrace challenges as catalysts for growth.
“There’s no progress without challenges. Step outside your comfort zone, take risks, and own your journey,” he advised.
He also encouraged the interns to develop a future-proof mindset by continuously updating their skills in a rapidly evolving world.
Confidente was informed that the insurance entity’s investment in young talent goes beyond offering temporary placements, as it primarily focuses on creating meaningful career pathways. By providing mentorship, industry exposure, and real-world experience, the company ensures that interns leave not only with a ‘ticket’ to graduation but also with a strong foundation for their careers.
The company further maintained that the impact of its internship programme is evident in the success stories of former interns who have transitioned into full-time roles. Ray-Anne Snyders, a New Business Analyst, recounted her journey from uncertainty to confidence.
“I remember feeling overwhelmed on my first day, unsure of how I would fit in. But with the right guidance and support, I grew into my role, and today, I am proud to be part of Sanlam’s journey,” Snyders added.
Similarly, Client Service Advisor, Thandi Hoffmann, highlighted how the internship shaped her professional development.
“Every challenge, every project, no matter how small, became a stepping stone to something greater. This internship didn’t just teach me skills; it shaped my confidence and work ethic,” Hoffman said.
