The just concluded, Oshakati Totem Expo recorded a total of 25 000 visitors, who were treated to about 300 exhibitors and business people displaying their merchandise, according to the town’s spokesperson Katarina Kamari.

“I can confidently say, it was a success. First, people came in large numbers to show their support for their totems and secondly exhibitors comprising of [various] businesses, government agencies tourists and cultural enthusiasts also came, “Kamari noted.

She indicated the expo served as a vibrant platform for cultural preservation, community engagement and tourism promotion. “In my view, the Totem expo has massively benefited many people in terms of advertising, products and services promotion. People also used the expo to network,” she added.

Kamari stressed that although there were several security issues, no major incident was a recorded.

“Where you find people you always find minor issues. However, we have to thank God that we did not experience a major security threat as we had tight security, provided by the Namibian police, men and women network as well as contracted private security companies,” she stressed.

However, some exhibitors blasted the organizers of the expo for constant power disruptions, which they said affected their businesses despite paying high amounts for their stalls.
