Junior handball players set for Zone Six showdown
• By Michael Uugwanga
THE country’s best young handball players aged Under 17 to Under 20 will travel to Zimbabwe to compete in the International Handball Federation’s (IHF) Zone Six Junior U-20 and Youth U-17 Championships.
The IHF granted Zimbabwe the right to host this year’s event, which will take place from May 5 to 12.
Representing Namibia will be the country’s finest, selected following a successful regional tournament held in Keetmanshoop, //Karas Region, last year.
The sport of handball, which had been dormant for many years, was rescued by individuals, most notably Namibia Handball Federation (NHF) founding president Issy Nakamwe, who is still the organisation’s founder.
Under his leadership, NHF obtained recognition and is now affiliated with the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC), IHF, and the African Handball Federation (AHF).
