Kahungu calls time out on CoW overtime

• By Hertta-Maria Amutenja

FORMER mayor of Windhoek, Francina Kahungu this week appealed to City of Windhoek officials to   rather consider attending council meetings during work hours as the city is spending a hefty amount on officials’ overtime.

The Swapo councillor said this on Tuesday during the last council meeting of the year.

According to Kahungu the almost four-hour long monthly council meetings were held after hours and this costs the council large amounts.

“All our meetings would start 17h30 … and the meetings would end after 21h00. And obviously the majority will claim their overtime. The council is spending a lot of money on officials’ overtime claims,” said Kahungu. In addition she suggested that council meetings be conducted during official working hours.
