Khomas, Otjikoto, and Omusati second divisions about to end

• By Michael Uugwanga

LOWER division football barely receives the same attention as top-flight football. However, they continue to produce exciting displays on the playing field. With the country’s top two-tier leagues, the Debmarine Premiership and First Divisions, ending a few months ago, all attention is now on the second division countrywide. However, some second-division leagues in other regions have already been concluded.

The Khomas Second Division, Otjikoto Second Division and Omusati Second Division are some of the few leagues that are very difficult to call, with all lower divisions expected to end before the end of this month. The winners of each league will play in the promotional play-offs against teams in the same stream for a place in the first division.

In the Khomas Second Division, with four rounds still to play, five teams are very much in the title race, which is spearheaded by Swallows Academy, who are occupying first place with 54 points, followed by second-placed team City Boys with 51 points, Young Generation on 50 points, Patriots with 45 points and defending champions NUST with 43 points. At the bottom, four teams are busy fighting for their survival, with Impala Chiefs occupying the last position with 17 points, followed by Falcon with 21 points, Namib Eagles with 24 points and SKW with 27 points.

In the Otjikoto Football League, Ondangwa UTD are topping the standing with 44 points, Gerros Urikhob with 40 points, Mama Love in third place with 37 points and Nine Eleven with 34 points. With only three rounds of matches still to go, Ondangwa UTD is edging closer to the title, while Urikhob, a team founded by former Brave Warriors legend Gerros Urikhob (currently Brave Warriors team manager), is breathing heavily under their neck. In contrast, Mama Love, a team comprised of this year’s Nedbank Namibian Newspaper top score with six goals, Arend Omar, looks like they are out of the title race for now.

The bottom three teams are Soweto Chiefs with 13 points, Omandengu U second from bottom with 13 points and third from bottom team Young United with 15 points. Omusati Football League has ODC FC and Future FC level on points with only one round to go, but ODC FC’s better goal difference over Future FC put them at the top of the summit, with ODC’s goal difference standing at 19 to Future FC‘s 16.

The place team is UNAM Ogongo with 35 points, and Ogongo United is in fourth place with 33 points. The bottom three teams are Black Magic with 12 points, Okalongo with 20 points, second from bottom and third team from bottom Onambula Young Generation with 21 points.
