Kuisebmund stadium not fit for football matches

• By Michael Uugwanga

THE popular Kuisebmund stadium in Walvis Bay is the latest stadium in the country to be tagged not fit to host football leagues matches, following City of Windhoek’s (CoW) decision to stop the Sam Nujoma Stadium from holding football matches due to its dilapidated conditions.

With the local football season full in swing, coastal teams such as Blue Waters and Eleven Arrows are now playing their home matches at the Jan Wilken Stadium, which is a field notably, used for rugby matches.

Speaking to Confidente this week, Gibson Goseb, Erongo Football League acting regional coordinator said the Kusiebmund stadium which had over the years been used as home ground for football does not have a safe pavilion for spectators.

“I went gone to inspect the current state of affairs on November 25 and can safely say that a lot of work was done in terms of getting the stadium ready to host matches.

The grass is 90 percent in terms of readiness only a few holes to be attended to in the next few days then I think we can go back to having matches at the Kuisebmund Stadium provided the pavilion is cordoned off and a few wooden stands are added to make up for sitting space lost,” Goseb said.

Confidente understand that the Municipality of Walvis Bay are looking at renovating the stadium in particular the pavilion, which could see the stadium being ready for football matches in February next year.
