ABOUT 3 869 new maintenance cases were registered during 2018 to 2019 bringing the total of active maintenance cases to approximately 53 000, indicating an increase of about 42 percent compared to the previous financial year.

This was revealed in the latest financial year report which detailed that of the active cases, however, only seven percent could be attributed to new registrations, while 35 percent are existing cases that were either revived and had court orders attached or alternatively, the accused started paying on such files.
