BY MARX ITAMALO
A 45-year–old man committed suicide on Saturday minutes after having shot his cousin at Onhuno in the Ohangwena region.
According to Ohangwena region’s crime coordinator deputy commissioner Zacharia Amakali, Pombili Hauwanga (45) and his cousin (unnamed) were driving along the Okatana-Onhuno main road towards Onhuno when an argument allegedly broke out.
According to Amakali, Hauwanga was apparently intoxicated and driving perilously which coerced his cousin to request him to hand over the vehicle to him. This allegedly infuriated Hauwanga, who shot his cousin and threw him out of his sedan car.
People in the vicinity of the area where the incident happened -notified the police at Onhuno roadblock where the car was heading- of what transpired giving the description of the vehicle in the process.
When Hauwanga approached the roadblock, the police stopped him to question him, but he allegedly drove off a short distance and committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.
His body was taken to the Engela state hospital mortuary and will be transported to the Okongo police mortuary for a post mortem. Next of kin has been informed. His unidentified cousin was admitted at Engela state hospital.
