Man stabs ex, commits suicide

A 26-year-old woman is recovering in the Outapi district hospital after surviving a knife attack on Monday morning , when she was stabbed by her ex-boyfriend who later committed suicide.
Hambeleleni Johaness was allegedly stabbed by her former lover en-route to work at Omonawatjihozu village in the Ruacana constituency.
According to deputy commissioner Moses Simaho, the regional crime coordinator for Omusati, Johaness had a protection order against her then boyfriend Simon Shikoyeni after they broke up a few months ago due to violence and abuse in their relationship.
“The boyfriend ambushed her this morning (Monday) at around 07h00 while she was on her way to work. He then pounded on her, stabbing her several times in the process,” Simaho told Confidente on Monday.
According to him, after committing the heinous crime the ex-boyfriend fled and after a search by the police and members of the public, he was found hanging under a tree.
Police investigation on the matter continues.
Meanwhile, northern marathon runner Gabriel Simon Shokonawa who was arrested on rape charges last week after allegedly raping a 16-year old pupil near Odibo in Ohangwena on Saturday was denied bail in the Ohangwena magistrate court on Tuesday.
According to Ohangwena police spokesman Abner Kaume Itumba, Shokonawa was denied bail and his case was postponed to September 23 for further police investigations and for a formal bail application hearing.
Itumba told Confidente, Shokonawa gave the girl a lift from Odibo to Oshikango on Saturday and on the way, he allegedly diverted and stopped the car near some bushes where he locked the car doors and raped the girl.
The girl allegedly took the number plate of the car and description and alerted the police. The marathon runner was arrested the next day at Oshikango.
