Maritz thwarts inflated N$20m furniture purchase

THE Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration Safety and Security will no longer be spending in excess of N$20 million that it had budgeted towards office furniture for its new head office in Windhoek, Confidente can reveal.

With staff already moving to the new building, Confidente has been reliably informed that the executive director of the ministry, Etienne Maritz last week pulled the plug on the office furniture bid opting to use the money for critical activities which include settling utilities and capacitating law enforcement authorities for the festive period.

The bidding process had also raised a red flag with middlemen having attempted to lure the tender with inflated prices of locally sourced furniture.
