… Maova, Kamberipa and Kambindu plan to move
By Michael Uugwanga
ONLY a few months after moving abroad, Brave Warriors players McCartney Nawaseb and Wangu Gome are on the verge of a big money move to Greece and Russia, respectively, after interest was expressed by unnamed clubs in the two countries. Edward Maova, Ivan Kamberipa and Elmo Kambindu are also expected to move abroad if and when the situation eases up.
McCartney joined PFK Qizilgum in Uzbekistan’s top flight football league in February, where he already made three appearances. Gome joined Armenian side Alashkert Yerevan in that country’s top league in March, but is yet to play a competitive match, while Maova joined Royal Eagles FC in South Africa’s first division league in January.
Kamberipa is currently on the books of African Stars in the Namibia Premier League (NPL) but is reportedly edging closer to a move to Europe, while Kambindu, who also plays in the NPL for Otjiwarongo-based club Mighty Gunners is rumoured to be on his way to Egypt.
McCartney and Wangu joined their respective clubs abroad thanks to their agents, Hareni Vieira Mbaeva and Timo Haukambe, who say they are working to get more local players contracts abroad.
In an interview with Confidente Sport Desk, Haukambe said the move involves hefty sums of money although he could not reveal the transfer costs of the players when asked. “We are talking of lots of money here. The players are wanted in Europe and in other parts of the world as we have connections everywhere. We want to get as many players out of Namibia and fulfil their dreams elsewhere,” he said.
He and Mbaeva are among the few football agents in Namibia, alongside other well-known agents, such as Collin April and Jakes Amaning. Mbaeva, a former player himself in the Liga de Elite outfit in China, Casa de Portugal em Macau FC, said if not for Covid-19, the players would be have moved abroad sooner.
“Our players, such as McCartney and Gome, have been monitored by many scouts. I can tell you that McCartney is wanted in Russia, while Gome is wanted in Greece. A club in Egypt has expressed interest in Kambindu. Maova is currently in self isolation due to Covid-19 and is also wanted outside Africa. Kamberipa is wanted in Europe. We are also working on other deals for other players,” Mbaeva said.
