Ministries play blame game over dilapidated sports facilities

• By Michael Uugwanga

THE Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) and the Ministry of Works and Transport blame each other for the deteriorating sports facilities at Katutura and Central hospitals in Windhoek.

The deteriorated infrastructure at the two hospitals built before independence is the tennis and netball courts, which were built for leisure purposes for nurses, doctors, and student nurses who live on the premises.

The tennis courts at Katutura Hospital are used for boot camp exercises, whereas the tennis courts at Central Hospital are not for any activity.

Health Ministry Public Relations Officer Walters Kamaya stated that the Ministry of Works is responsible for the general maintenance of all government facilities, including sports facilities, despite admitting that the sports facilities have deteriorated due to underutilisation.
