More than 1 000 Angolans deported in two days

… As desperate Angolans enter Namibia illegally

IMMIGRATION officials working together with the Namibian police have on Tuesday and Wednesday alone arrested and deported over 1 000 illegal Angolan immigrants just in those two days.

This is according to Omusati governor Erginus Endjala in an interview with Confidente this week. The governor said most of the immigrants were arrested along the border whilst trying to illegally sneak into the country.

“We have a lot of Angolan citizens trying to cross into Namibia illegally. They use ungazzetted entry points to enter into our country and this is an illegal activity, which is why they were arrested. It’s something that cannot be condoned,” he said.

Endjala said in February last year, thousands of Angolans came into Namibia citing hardship in their country.
