More than 100 babies dumped in three years

SOME 179 babies were dumped in Namibia in the past three years, either through abortion or concealment of birth.

According to statistics provided by the Namibian police, 63 babies were illegally aborted between 2019 and 2021 while 116 were dumped (concealment of birth) by their mothers countrywide.

Throughout the entire country, Khomas region recorded the highest number of baby dumping cases amounting to 21 followed by Erongo region which recorded 19.

Meanwhile, Oshana recorded the highest number of abortions with 11 cases.

In 2017, cases of concealment of birth however stood at 44, with 16 abortions countrywide in just one year.
