Mutumbula set for a stellar year

THAILAND-BASED top female swimming sensation Trisha Mutumbula, who is on a World Aquatics programme in Phuket, says this year will be hectic for her as she aims to compete in the primary competition after a difficult 2023.

Mutumbula (19), who competed in fewer competitions last year due to school commitments and a lack of funding, ended the year on a high note after winning five medals, one gold, three silver medals, and one bronze, at the Thai Short Course Nationals (Thai SC Nationals) held from 21- 24 December at the Assumption University, Suvarnabhumi Campus in Bangkok.

Mutumbula told Confidente that moving to Thailand has boosted her swimming talents.

She is particularly excited about the rescheduled All-Africa Games, set to take place in Ghana from March 8 to 23.

“It feels very rewarding, especially after a difficult swimming season before moving to Thailand—more exercise and a change of scenery.

When I returned home, the emphasis was significantly more on education. I have a lot of events coming up this year, including the All-African Games, Thai SC Nationals, and the African Swimming Confederation (CANA) ZONE IV, which will be held in Namibia.

“My plans for this year include competing in major swimming competitions, including the All-Africa Games,” Mutumbula said.
