N$500 million needed for fishing bank

WALVIS Bay Urban constituency councillor Knowledge Iipinge has revealed that at least N$500 million is needed to be raised locally or through blue bonds for the establishment of a ‘fishing bank’ that aims to create, open up and foster entrepreneurship within the community through the fishing industry.

The bank will be tasked to carry out mandates that are similar to the State-Owned Enterprise, Agribank, such as promoting the growth and development of the fishing industry.

“Our poverty alleviation drive for the bank is focused on a holistic approach that should not be looked at from a begging bowl mentality but to create, open up and foster entrepreneurship within the community through the fishing industry,” said Iipinge.
