Nam addresses baby dumping, child online sexual abuse

• By Veronica Amaral

Minister of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare, and head of the delegation, Doreen Sioka, said Namibia had taken measures to ensure the effective implementation of the Convention on baby dumping and sexual abuse of children.

According to Sioka, the State party passed the Child Care and Protection Act in 2015 and established several policies and plans to implement this legislation and children’s rights. It conducted childcare and protection forums to train 543 key stakeholders, including teachers, police officers, community workers, and public officials, in compliance with the Act and planned to further train stakeholders, including children.

It has developed guidelines on implementing the Act and child-friendly documentation explaining key provisions, including HIV/AIDS.
