Nam Comedy Circle grooms fresh talent

By Confidente Reporter

FOLLOWING a widely advertised audition held by the NAM Comedy Circle team at the end July, a new face is being introduced to comedy audiences on Wednesday 25 September, when NAM Comedy Circle resumes at the Hilton Kalabar.

Isidor Kamati stood out from the crowd, demonstrating that he had the right ingredients to become a comedian of note. According to Ernst Herma, director at Ondjila Y’Ondjaba concert agency, Kamati has the courage and energy to challenge himself. “The desire to make others laugh and the ability to invent and present personal stories,” Herma said.

Born in Outapi 23 years ago, the day he claims he realized that he had more than one funny bone inside his body, Kamati grew up in Windhoek and studied to become a librarian and loves it.

During his studies he flirted with acting and participated in a theatre students’ exam in 2017 and that is where his personal live performance experience ends – so far. His forte is the impersonation of leading figures in Namibian society, past and present, of which he will give us a taste this coming Wednesday.

If, within the `army of stand-up comedians`, Kamati debuts as a `rookie`, KriswithaK has advanced to the rank of lieutenant, following a stunning performance at NAM Comedy Circle in May. His rendition of the escapades of an Air Namibia pilot, who assumes the behaviour and mannerisms of your average Katutura taxi driver, had audiences in stitches.

Another hit was his sketch on first attempts at the never-ending game of courting, with the objects of his advances claiming that he was either to short, too black or too poor for their taste.

The part-time comedian and full time postgraduate media and drama student has been extremely busy in the pursuit of his stand-up career over the past three years, which saw him perform at every major comedy occasion and venue in Namibia and propelled him to similar events in the wider SADC diaspora.

‘The general` of stand-up comedy in Namibia, Mr Slick is the co-founder of Free Your Mind Entertainment and is widely loved for his improvisational skills and ability to engage individuals in the audience – sometimes with benevolence, sometimes with disarming frankness. Not all of Slick´s material is easy to digest, but it takes a sharp listener to follow a sharp tongue.

Well known and much-loved stand-up comedian and MC Mark Kariahuua navigates the all-star cast through the evening. He is also responsible for the fair and – he insists – transparent allocation of the generous prices to be won, courtesy of Hilton Hotel, which include a voucher for two for a day´s use of the gym, pool and steam room, combined with a 50% discount at the Hilton Breeze Spa, a dinner for two at the D’Vine Wine & Sushi outlet or at the Ekipa Interactive dinner buffet.

The show starts at 20h00 sharp and entrance is free.
