Nam seizes counterfeit goods valued at N$70m

NAMIBIA has so far confiscated and destroyed goods worth over N$70 million. Among the goods seized and destroyed are cellphones, cosmetics, medicines, alcohol and illicit drugs. These goods and many more were seized by customs over a period of three years, Confidente has established.

According to statistics provided to Confidente by the Ministry of Finance, among the confiscated the items, 3.5 million litres of alcohol with an estimated value of N$64 million were destroyed.

Operation Kalahari Desert phase 2, 3, 4 and 5 against prohibited and restricted goods led to the collection of N$2.2 million and seizure of prohibited goods valued at N$1.7 million and pharmaceutical products and other goods posing a threat to health and safety seized a total of 1 300 cartons which contained 26 million pieces of co-trimoxazole tablets 480mg with the value of N$7.5 million.
