THE vibes around the Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMA’s) have been somewhat somber recently, but now there will be good reason for the hype to start up again, as the organisers recently said they will soon announce the NAMA 2019 nominees for the awards show that will take place on 7 September.

MTC executive and spokesman Tim Ekandjo announced earlier this year that the NAMA’s will have a new category this year: Artist of the Year.

“The new category will now see the best talent in Namibia, whether male or female compete in this category on an equal platform for the accolade of the overall Best Artist of the Year in Namibia,” he said.

The winner of the Artist of the Year award will be decided by the highest score recorded from the judges’ votes to the winners of the Best Male and Best Female categories.

Some changes have also been made for the Best Producer and Best Music Video categories.

“Moving forward, the Best Producer nominees will be decided by the top five overall best scores received from the judges’ vote for musical entries nominated within the Best Male, Best Female and Group/Duo of the Year categories,” he added.

Contenders for the Best Music Video category will only be allowed one entry per artist. The winner of the Artist of the Year award will walk away with N$150,000, while the winners of the Best Female and Best Male categories will win N$100,000 each.
