The Ministry of Health and Social Services recently received 14 metric tons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food from the United States of America for pregnant and postpartum women and children under 15 years diagnosed with severe acute malnutrition.

According to the Deputy Minister of Health, Esther Utjiua Muinjangue, the donation is valued at Nine Hundred and Sixty-Six Thousand and Six Namibian Dollars (NAD 966,006.00) (USD 53,400).

The Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food received by the ministry will be distributed to hospital pediatric wards, health centers, and clinics.

“Therapeutic and supplementary foods are prescribed for a limited duration based on careful clinical assessment, clear entry and exit criteria based on anthropometry, and appropriate nutrition counseling,” said Muinjangue.
