The Ministry of Health and Social Services achieved the Silver Tier on the Path-To-Elimination (PTE) of Mother-To-Child Transmission (MTCT) of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) and a Bronze Tier on the Path-To-Elimination (PTE) of MTCT of HIV in 2020 and 2021, from the Director General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Tedros Ghebreyesus, on 16 February 2024.

According to the health minister, Kalumbi Shangula, success resulted from years of program investment, free service provision,
and purposeful, organized activity.

Such provisions include free Hepatitis B and syphilis testing and treatment and free antiretroviral therapy (ART) for mothers and
partners.
