Namibia’s beef finds market in Ghana

Namibia has made a quantum leap after the country exported its first beef consignment from Namibia, including the Red line district, government has announced today.

Meatco’s first consignment of the Namibian beef from the Northern Communal Areas, popularly known as the Red Line to Accra- Ghana, brings relief to Northern beef producers who have been struggling to find a market for their produce.

According to the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, Namibia continues to enhance its economic diplomacy and create market access for Namibian products as well as increasing job opportunities.

In an interview with Confidente this week, Namibian Ambassador to Ghana Selma Ashipala – Musavyi said she was working hard to expand Namibia’s beef market to other West African countries including, Togo, Bukina Faso and Niger.

“There is a market for Namibian beef in Africa and we need to grow our economy and take advantage by distributing Namibia’s products to different African countries.

“This will strengthen Namibia and Ghana’s bilateral relations in terms of tourism, job increase and trade between the two countries,” she said.

“This is one of the greatest achievement and we are very much excited as this initiative will create jobs for people here in Ghana as well as Namibians. We are very grateful for the support of our Ministry of international relations and cooperation, Meatco and many other stakeholders that supported us with this initiative.

“It is very important as Namibians to put economic content to Ghana.

Both countries should now start to take advantage in terms as employment creation and consolidate the economies of both countries,” she stated
