NASE horse racing set for Gobabis

THE first edition of the NAmerican Sport and Entertainment (NASE) Derby horse racing will take place this Saturday, December 10, at the Gobabis Turf Club in the Omaheke Region.
NASE was founded in 2020 by Dumisa Zauana, Ivy Mbuende, Victor Katuuo and Mbakondja Katuuo who are all based the United States of America (USA) and has the blessings of the Namibia Horse Racing Association (NHRA), which is the regulatory body for horse racing in the country.
NASE was supposedly to have hosted its first event in 2020 but the idea failed to materialise due to restrictions set by government on all sport codes due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking to Confidente this week, NASE spokesperson, Dumisa Zauana said the overall sponsorship towards the event was N$250 000 and that his organisation was not in competition with the corporate such as Standard Bank, First National Bank, Debmarine and MTC who are already sponsoring horse racing events in the country.
“NASE was founded two years ago and I am the founder. In 2020, we could not host the first event due to COVID-19 as we thought it was pointless to host an event were spectators are not allowed to attend.
We decided to host it in Gobabis because it is easy for horse racing clubs to make easy and faster entry to Gobabis than in other areas. We are not here to compete with anyone but just to give back to our communities. We were born in Namibia but are now based in the US. We just want people to come in their numbers and enjoy themselves.
The event will start around 10H00,” Zauana said.
There will be 19 races on show, in different categories.
