NCS to run Oshakati abattoir

THE Namibia Correctional Services (NCS) will be running the affairs of the Oshakati town council’s abattoir after the prisons agency renovated it to the tune of N$400 000.

The NCS has been using the facility to slaughter its pigs for the past five years. Community members also used to slaughter cattle and have carcasses cut at the same facility.

However, health inspectors declared it unfit for slaughtering animals bound for human consumption and operations there were brought to a halt. The inspectors cited the dilapidated building among other things. This forced the NCS to shift elsewhere to slaughter its pigs that are reared at the Ondangwa rehabilitation facility.

The NCS engaged the Oshakati town council and decided to renovate the abattoir at their own cost so that they continue using the abattoir. Renovations started in May and were completed recently.
