This year’s annual Nedbank Citi Dash running event was launched in Windhoek this week, with the competition set to take place on 08 September. That is expected to attract some of the country’s top marathon runners, such as Helalia Johannes, Simon Paulus, Reinhold Thomas and many more.
The Nedbank Citi Dash comprises the 10km, the main event of the day, and the fun event, which covers 10km. At the same time, there are other categories for U-18, visually impaired, and wheelchair.
The event was officially graced by the Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service, Agnes Tjongarero, who was also the keynote speaker, Nedbank Namibia’s managing director Martha Murorua, City of Windhoek mayor Queen Kamati and Chief Executive officer (CEO) of the City of Windhoek, Moses Matyayi.
“As early as the late 2000s, Nedbank Group has made its mark within the sport of running when it established the Nedbank Running Club. The Nedbank Running Club has grown significantly over the years and continues to offer a wealth of benefits to its members, from community support and expert training, as well as competitive opportunities. The Nedbank Running Club since seen branches open in Zimbabwe and Lesotho, and we are proud to say that several top Namibian running athletes are also members of the Nedbank Running Club,” said Murorua.
Tjongarero, on the other hand, is hoping to see top-tier runners taking part in this year’s event and those of school-going learners.
“We believe that Nedbank Citi Dash will not fail to attract top-tier elite runners, enthusiastic and novice runners and walkers, school learners, and even families who are just looking to participate in a fun and active outing. I believe that this year the Nedbank Citi Dash will once again have one of the greatest line-ups that Namibia running has ever seen,” said Tjongarero.
