Former Namibian Olympian cyclist Frank Bombosch won the first edition of the SWA-Bank cycling event (as it was known back then) in 1986 in the 45 km race.

During the launch JG Van Graan, chief financial officer of NedBank Namibia said the bank was proud to have associated itself with the Namibia Cycling Federation and was hoping for lasting partnership.

The NedBank Cycling Road Challenge will be the second cycling race sponsored by NedBank Namibia, following the NedBank/Windhoek Pedal Power Road Race Series that was hosted in Windhoek the past weekend.

“The NedBank Road Challenge in particular has developed a special allure in the intervening years since 1986, and its recipe has not changed. Some of them will be bright-eyed youngsters, ready to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Mannie Heymans, Erik Hofmann, Costa Seibeb, Dan Craven, Vera Adrian, Irene Steyn and Michelle Vorster, by having their names etched into history as winners of the country’s most prestigious road cycling race,” said Van Graan.
