Netball Namibia’s unwanted headache

…as MTC remains mum on whether they will renew the league sponsorship package

TELECOMUNICATION giants MTC are still evaluating whether to sign a new sponsorship with Netball Namibia after their three-year multi-million-dollar sponsorship with the Namibia Netball Premier League (NNPL) ended this past weekend.

There is little doubt that MTC has altered the netball dynamic in the country, resulting in higher netball standards that have benefited over 165 players.

The ended Netball league saw Namibia Correctional Service (NCS) take home the title. The Namibian Navy came in second place, while last season’s champions, Mighty Gunners, were in third place.

NCS won the MTC/NNPL for the first time in 2021, while Navy finished second for the first time in the tournament.

Speaking at the award ceremony, where three players, including a club administrator, received individual accolades for their outstanding performance in the league, MTC’s Chief Human Capital and Corporate Affairs Officer, Tim Ekandjo, said he could not say whether MTC will continue to sponsor netball or not, but gave Netball Namibia hope, when he said he wants to see a netball professionalised shortly.
