NFA backs Benjamin despite Saudi link

NAMIBIA Football Association (NFA) president Robert Shimooshili has told Confidente that Collin Benjamin will continue as Brave Warriors coach, despite reports that he received a lucrative offer from an undisclosed Saudi team last year.

According to sources, Benjamin told his close associates that he is still evaluating the offer because he has yet to decide whether to quit his deal with NFA. He is on a five-year contract, which he signed nearly two years ago.

Since taking over the Brave Warriors, Benjamin has helped the team reach the Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup final in 2022, as well as qualifying for the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, where his side reached the round of 16 for the first time with the Brave Warriors securing their first ever win at the AFCON, a 1-0 victory over Tunisia.

Shimooshili’s statement came after he was questioned if the NFA was aware of Benjamin’s offer from Saudi Arabia, to which he said no.
