The SPYL former secretary Elijah Ngurare is mum on his next political move, telling The Confidente he is a civil servant. Ngurare, aged 51, is the deputy executive director of the agriculture ministry.

“You are talking to a public servant. No comment, for now, you are speaking to a public servant,” said Ngurare in a telephonic interview on Sunday.

Ngurare said Swapo remains “our Party, but I have to be neutral.

We talk about anything under the sun”.

Ngurare is perceived as a no-nonsense political maestro due to his stance on rural Namibia development and youth unemployment. In 2019, a faction within the Swapo Party purportedly sought Ngurare’s candidacy for secretary-general to regain lost support among the masses at the height of the Fishrot Scandal.
In 2015, the party’s top four leaders – forced him from his post before they charged him, along with three others, with bringing the party’s name into disrepute and insulting party leaders.
