NPBF registers with NSC

… to send players to represent Namibia in SA competition

• By Michael Uugwanga

NEWLY revived Namibia Pool and Billboards Federation (NPBF) which has been in existence since 2014 before only being accredited by the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) is already hard at work in promoting the sport countrywide.

NPBF currently consists of seven affiliated clubs, Young Ones Pool Club, Celtic Pool Club, Coastal Pool Club, Rehoboth Pool Club, Sparta Pool Club, Swakopmund Pool Club and Khomasdal Tornado Pool Club.

NPBF incumbent president, Cyril van Rooi in an exclusive interview with Confidente this week, outlined some of the plans that awaits the federation, that only received its membership from NSC two weeks ago.

The federation is expected to host Annual General Meeting (AGM) next year of which it will select new leaders to take the sport to greater heights.

Last weekend, the federation hosted its biggest competition, the Champ of champions, at Offside Sports Bar in Windhoek, which was contested by six clubs, namely Young Ones, Celtic, Coastal Warriors, Rehoboth and Sparta.

“NPBF applied for membership with NSC two weeks ago, in order for the current leadership to run the affairs of the federation until the next AGM to be held next year February. The other clubs did not take part because of financial issues.

We are also now affiliated to the All Africa Pool Association (AAPA).

“We do not want just to have the sport played in pubs or bars but we also want young people to start playing this sport. These are some of the issue we are going to discuss at the AGM,” van Rooi said.

The future of the federation looks bright, with the federation already looking at selecting a team to represent the country at the AABB in South Africa in October next year, even though the date and venue are yet to be confirmed.
