NUST awards postgraduate N$2m scholarships

NAMIBIA University of Science and Technology (NUST) recently awarded six scholarships worth over two million dollars to groom postgraduates into the academic pipeline for exposure to various higher degree-related functions such as teaching, assessing, and leading research teams.
According to the University, this is the first time it is availing funds of this nature as part of the initiatives funded through the Institutional Research Publications Committee (IRPC) budget.
With the award and official handover of the scholarship, NUST recognized top-performing students in various disciplines through its full-time Prestigious Research Excellence Scholarships (PRES).

Moreover, one condition is that the students will be Generally, financing higher degrees poses a limiting factor towards furthering studies; therefore, this is at least one hurdle that six postgraduate students will not have to worry about. The funds will be used to cover costs that include tuition, monthly allowances, conference participation, and publications costs.
Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor Colin Stanley highlighted that the awards will give the students a more leisurely life while they focus on school and enable them to research correctly.
“These scholarships will enable students to focus on their research and related outputs such as academic publications and innovative product development, guided by their supervisor contributing to advancing knowledge in their fields,” said Stanley.
Stanley added that the awardees must complete their studies within the stipulated study period, contributing to higher graduate output.
