An Oshakati-based businessman was conned of N$34 500 by men masquerading as customers for industrial coolers he was selling.
Narrating his tale of woe to this publication, Hafeni Ndume, a businessman interested in many industries, said he had advertised two industrial coolers he was selling on different social media platforms. On Friday, May 17, a man pretending to be an interested client allegedly called him from Ruacana in Omusati, showing his interest in buying the merchandise.
“He told me he was interested in the coolers as he wanted them for his butchery business in Eenhana.
He told me he would send two of his nephews to our warehouse to view the machines,” Ndume told Confidente, indicating the scammer sounded like an elderly man over the telephone.
Dully, the two ‘nephews’ arrived, and they inspected the coolers. After that, they allegedly called their uncle, indicating the coolers were in good condition and that the uncle should buy them. When they were inspecting the coolers, Ndume allegedly clandestinely made a video of the two men.
