By Confidente Reporter

THE Outjo Annual Girls Cricket Festival is a tournament that was first initiated in 2018 with the core purpose to promote, develop, expose, and identify young talented girls between the ages of 11 to 16 years.
The tournament will take place at Outjo Sports Stadium from May 6 to 8 of which teams will be playing in a round robin basis over a period of three days.

The participating teams this year are, Outjo U-13, U-15A, U-15B, Nara Primary School U-13 and U-15 and Kamanjab U-13 girls’ cricket team.

The aim of the tournament is to provide girls with equal playing opportunities in order for them to gain cricket skills so that they compete at national events.
The tournament is sponsored by Indongo Toyota Otjiwarongo that will also be responsible for handing over prizes to winning teams, while Cricket Namibia will assist with transport and accommodation expenses.

The winning team from each category will be awarded with medals and trophies, while second place and third place teams will receive medals.
The tournament will officially be opened by Outjo mayor Sieglinde Amamus and will be attended by the Namibian Women’s National team head coach Francios van Der Merwe who will be scouting for new talent.
Last year the tournament took place excluding teams from the Kunene region due to travelling restrictions that were imposed at the time amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
