Over 600 inmates recover from Covid

AT least 628 offenders from correctional facilities across the country have been cleared of Covid-19 since the outbreak and the facilities only had 19 active cases recorded as of Monday.

This was revealed to Confidente by Raphael Hamunyela, commissioner general of the Namibian Correctional Service.

Hamunyela said  2 785 offenders were tested for the virus since March 13 2020 up to January 25 2021 and of the test samples a total of 649 inmates tested positive for Covid-19 and only two deaths were recorded since the first case which was reported at the Walvis Bay correctional facility on June 11 2020.

He said that the inmates that test positive receive special treatment and have a different diet from the rest.
