PDM calls for increased tourism budget

POPULAR Democratic Movement (PDM) Member of Parliament, Pieter Mostert has called on the Minister of Finance Ipumbu Shiimi to reconsider the budgetary allocation towards the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism for financial year 2022/23.

The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism received an allocation of N$4,9 billion.

According to Mostert, the decreased allocation poses monumental challenges towards the execution of the ministry’s mandate, given the battering tourism received due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Indeed, this decreased budgetary allocation poses monumental challenges towards the effective execution of the ministry’s mandate, especially when one considers that the ministry is still grappling with the adverse effects left behind by the 2019 Novel Coronavirus in a number of key areas.
