By Confidente Reporter
THE second phase of the Nationhood and National Pride Programme (NNP) was recently launched by Vice President, Nangolo Mbumba on behalf of President Dr Hage Geingob.
The NNP dates back to 2006 when it was put together by Cabinet and the first phase was launched in 2011 by former President Dr Hifikepunye Pohamba under the theme, ‘My Namibia, My Country, My Pride’.
The NNP provides a framework of five strategic pillars namely, National Identity and National Branding; Social Cohesion, Governance and Capacity building, Research and Innovation, Communication, Education and Awareness.
These pillars coupled with strategic objectives positions the programme to achieve its vision of fostering patriotism and national pride.
With National Youth Service being an essential part of transforming and empowering youth for nation building through life skills, training and leadership development, the NYS is aimed at restoring a sense of patriotism and love for the country.
The aforementioned objective outlines amongst other things, to enhance the NYS and establish special youth service programmes for the general public, which are set to encourage both public servants and the private sectors to undergo a special youth service programme.
The NYS currently offers a three-phase youth development programme that includes, civic training, skills training and national voluntary service. Civic training is aimed at instilling discipline, encouraging patriotism and a sense of civic responsibility and loyalty to the country.
National voluntary service is aimed at promoting social responsibility amongst the youth, whilst skills training aims at equipping the youth with technical vocational skills in various trades at different levels.
