Pieters living the dream as Pirates first choice goalkeeper

By Michael Uugwanga

FROM not playing a single minute for Orlando Pirates FC last season, Tshiamiso ‘Sanchez’ Pieters is now the main man between the sticks following the departure of Jonas Mateus, who kept him on the bench last season.
Aged 19, Pieters has made the number one jersey his own at Pirates despite a mixed bag of results, most notably the previous weekend, where Pirates received a 4-2 hammering at the hands of Okahandja FC in Okahandja, and also earned a point in a hard-fought game away to Blue Waters FC in Walvis Bay.

Playing under the alias Sanchez, Pieters has been a constant in the Pirates squad in the Debmarine Premiership.
The youngster was in brilliant form a fortnight ago when Pirates defeated FC Ongos 2-1 and followed up the performance with another magnificent showing against last season’s runner-up Blue Waters.
Against FC Ongos, he came up against Mateus, who had mentored his goalkeeping talent throughout their time together at Pirates.

Mateus, who joined FC Ongos, is enjoying his time at his newfound home, with the team sitting second on the log with 12 points from five matches, while Pieters’ Pirates are 11th with four points from four matches.
