Private schools in U-turn over exams retake

THE Association of Private Schools in Namibia (APSN) which had earlier appealed to the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture against the rewriting of Grade 11 and 12 ordinary level exams next year, has now changed its mind.

The education ministry on December 1 announced, leaked examination papers will have to be rewritten in January or else Cambridge Assessment International would not accredit their results.

This comes after multiple October/November 2021 examination papers got leaked in the Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary (NSSCO) old curriculum Grade 12 and NSSCO new curriculum Grade 11 exams.

The police further said they would be carrying out investigations among teachers and learners regarding the matter.

Chairperson of APSN, Colette Riekert in a letter addressed to the executive director of education had initially said it was not reasonable to punish all the learners as not all are guilty of the leaked exams papers.
