Questions raised over Usakos-Karibib bid integrity

• By Andre Tino

THE United Peoples Movement (UPM) has questioned the awarding of a N$340 million bid to a company that is subject ofa  tax investigation, saying the award is unethical.

The contract was awarded to Zhong Mei Engineering for the Usakos-Karibib road rehabilitation but the company is subject to a N$33 million tax scrutiny.

Bidders must submit a good standing certificate from NamRa to qualify to participate in the bidding process. UPM has questioned where and how Zhong Mei Engineering got its good-standing certificate for the bid.

“How does a foreign-owned company that recently had N$33 million seized from its bank account by the Tax Authority NamRa receive a bid of N$340 million?”
