ROADS Authority (RA) Corporate Communication Manager Hileni Fillemon says they intend to upgrade six major gravel roads in the Oshikoto, Oshana, and Omusati Regions to low-volume bituminous standards during the 2023/2024 fiscal year.

The roads to be serviced include the district road 3673 Omuthiya–Onanke in Oshikoto, the district road 3645 Engoyi–Omuntele, the district road 3607 Oshakati–Ompundja in Oshana, the district road 3605 Oluno–Uukwiyuushona, the district road 3616 Tsandi–Onesi–Epalela, and the district road 3633 Tsandi–Omugulugwombashe.

Fillemon told Confidente that RA was aware of the conditions of all the roads under its jurisdiction, as it is its responsibility to maintain them.

She explained that RA has its road and management system department based at Oshakati, which monitors road conditions continuously.

Fillemon indicated continuous road maintenance takes place; however, at times, it is affected by circumstances beyond their control but has admitted and maintained they have received complaints about the conditions of the gravel roads in the north of the country.
