Ripsel, the new face of Namibia boxing

NAMIBIA has produced some of the world’s best boxers over the years, who have held numerous world titles to their names, with Ruan Ripsel being the latest boxer destiny for greater heights.

Born 23 years ago, Ripsel has six fights to his name and remains unbeaten in his professional bout and fights under AC Boxing Sport and Entertainment, owned by one of the country’s best young trainers and promoters, Imms Moses.

Last Saturday, Ripsel extended his unbeaten record against Edward Mbangu in their scheduled Lightweight six-rounder at the Wanderers Sports Centre in Windhoek, in which he defeated Mbangu via a majority decision.

“It feels humbling and great to have made it this far in my professional boxing career, even though I am just starting. I am sure I will stay undefeated as far as God allows. I started boxing at the age of 18 in 2018. I started on my own, before coaches noticed my potential, in my early stages when I was still an amateur. One coach from Okahandja identified me, but my first real coach and promoter was Imms Moses, who saw me fight at the national championship at the amateur level.

“Under his tutelage, Moses taught me the basics of boxing. I am the future of boxing for Namibia and the world. I believe in my skills and potential. Prince Nazeem is my boxing Idol because whenever I watch his old fights, they inspire me to think that I can also do what he did, if not better,” said Ripsel.
