Riruako coronation in full swing amid chieftainship rivalry

A faction within the Ovaherero Traditional Authority (OTA) aligned to Dr Hoze Riruako will gather in Okahandja on Saturday to observe his ascendance to the Ovaherero paramount seat following his victory to succeed Vekuii Rukoro, who passed on June two years ago.

Riruako emerged as a successor to Rukoro after securing a landslide victory with 195 votes against Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) and Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) presidents McHenry Venaani and Mike Kavekotora, who were left to share the spoils of paltry 74 votes in the leadership race that took place on February 4.

Riruako, who also served as a vice-chancellor of a Malaysian tertiary institution, Limkokwing University, confirmed the development, saying he expects a “sizeable” contingent of his sympathisers amid intense rivalry in the succession debacle.
