Shalulile sets new scoring record with Burundi goal

• By Michael Uugwanga

BRAVE Warriors captain and Mamelodi Sundowns in-form striker Peter Shalulile has set another personal record after scoring his fourth goal in Tuesday’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Burundi.

Only Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen (seven goals) and Senegal’s Sadio Mané (five goals) have scored more than Shalulile, despite the Namibian playing one fewer game to date.

Despite spending two months on the sidelines for his South African team, Mamelodi Sundowns, Shalulile was crowned joint top scorer with Cape Town striker Khanyisa Mayo in the recently concluded DStv Premiership, where they both scored 12 goals.

Shalulile finished second in the scoring charts in the Nedbank Cup, South Africa’s Football Association Cup competition, with five goals, trailing only Kgomotso Mosadi of Casric Stars and Iqraam Rayners of Stellenbosch, who both scored six.

He helped Sundowns reach the CAF Champions League semi-finals after finishing the season as joint top scorer with MS. Kahraba of Al Ahly SC with six goals.
