The finance minister, Iipumbu Shiimi, said customs administrations must strengthen their efforts to enhance trade among African countries.

He made these remarks during the official opening of the 30th Governing Council Meeting of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) East and Southern African Region, which was recently held in Swakopmund.

The event, organised by the NamRa, gathered over 80 delegates from the WCO East and Southern African region member states.

Shiimi said despite the acknowledgement that intra-African trade is pivotal for economic development and poverty eradication, the statistics in Africa still need to be more encouraging.

“It is mandatory upon us to intensify efforts to enhance trade among African nations, with customs administrations playing a pivotal role in this endeavour.
