Shimwandi reveals her move from FC Ongos to Girls n Goals
• By Michael Uugwanga
EXCITING defender Bella Shimwandi made a brave move from FC Ongos (previously Tura Magic Ladies) to Girls and Goals FC this season on loan in the FNB Women Super League (WSL), a move that came as a surprise.
Shimwandi (23) was one the standout players for FC Ongos last season when they won the FNB WSL title, in the defence alongside national team players such as Lydiana Nanamus and Emma Naris, who made life so easy for Shimwandi to settle in very well.
On the other hand, her move to Girls and Goals could be seen as wise considering the competition at the backline at FC Ongos, who have added another national team defender, Julia Rutjindo, from Girls and Goals to partner Naris and Nanamus.
Another player who operates in the defence is Lovia Mulunga, although she is primarily deployed in the attacking position.
“Well, what made me move temporarily (loan) from the club is my studies; being an FC Ongos player, you should be 100 per cent committed towards the club, and by that, I mean being available for most training sessions and matches 99 per cent of the time.
“That is something I cannot offer the club since I am a full-time student and need to improvise between my studies and football, and I know that is something I can do at the Girls and Goals FC because their main objectives are football and education.
I had the best experience at FC Ongos, being welcomed with open arms.
