Shixwameni, a champion of youth democracy

THE late All People’s Party (APP) president Ignatius Shixwameni has been described as a true leader who played a vital role in youth democracy.

Shixwameni (55) died last week after collapsing in parliament.

In an interview with Confidente, Deputy Minister of Finance Maureen Hinda-Mbuende described the late politician as a true leader who sacrificed his life for the youth during his time.

“He had led the huge student boycott at that time because of Afrikaans which was the medium of instruction and assessment and a few lecturers supported him. After having a successful presser because of him dual languages were approved and some of us pushed to take English though we were coming from an Afrikaans school,” she said.

She added what was more unique about Shixwameni was the way he spoke as he had great command of English
